FAQ – Commissions

Q: Do you only paints pet portraits?

A: While I paint many, many pets, I also paint whimsical paintings, traditional landscapes, flowers, murals even cows & boots. Browse the website to see examples of these and much more.

Q: What kind of surface & paint do you use?
A: I use acrylic paint on stretched canvas.
Q: Are your portraits digital?
A: No! I hand paint every portrait in my studio here in Houston the old fashioned way on stretched canvas with paint and brushes.
Q: So you use a photo of my pet for the pet portrait. How does this work?
A: Yes! I can’t tell you how important it is that you get a really good photo of your pet. Just ONE photo of the pose you wish me to paint. Multiple photos with different poses etc. causes confusion. So be sure to capture your 4-legged friend the way you what the finished painting to look.
However, you may wish to include extra photos for close-up details, color etc. but please stipulate which photo / pose you want replicated on the canvas.
Q: I'd like a painting with all my pets included. Can you do this?
A: Yes of course.
Read here for more information about custom pet portraits by Kermit.
Q: Is there an additional charge when multiple pets are in the painting?
A: Yes, each additional pet requires considerably more time to complete the painting so I have to charge extra for each additional pet.
Read here for more information about custom pet portraits by Kermit.
Q: How many photos should I send you?
Just ONE photo showing the pose you wish me to paint. So be sure to capture your 4-legged friend the way you what the finished painting to look.
However, additional photos are helpful for detail and color.
Q: For a painting with multiple pets do you need one photo or separate photos of each pet?
It’s best to provide me with separate photos of each pet. Remember to be sure to capture each 4-legged friend the way you them to look in the finished painting.
Q: How much does a painting cost?

A: It depends on the size, number of animals featured, background complexity, time frame etc. Shipping and framing are additional. Read here for more information about custom pet portrait prices by Kermit.

Q: I want you to paint my pet. What's the first step?
A: Here are the steps outlining the process.

Contact Kermit or call: (713) 614-5655 to discuss.
(Please leave a message if I am unable to answer the phone (which is often). I always try to return all calls by the end of the day.)

Be sure to check out pet portraits for ideas. Thank you to my clients who have graciously agreed to share their commissioned artwork.

Q: Can I request any sized painting?

A: Yes, of course.
Typically paintings range in size from 16″ x 20″ to 60″ x 60″ but I can accommodate any size request. Maybe you have a wall to fill, or even have space for a mural. Big or small, size is optional.

Please contact me or call to discuss: (713) 614-5655
I’m often unable to answer the phone (if I’m giving a class etc.) so please be sure to leave a message.

Q: How can I contact you?
A: Please contact me or call me: (713) 614-5655
I’m often unable to answer the phone (if I’m giving a class etc.) so please be sure to leave a message.
Q: Is a deposit required?
Yes, I require a partial payment before I start your painting.
We’ll discuss this before the project starts
Q: How do I pay you?
A: I accept cash or check at this time.
Soon you will be able to pay with a credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, JCB, Diner’s Club & EnRoute) via Paypal even if you do not have a Paypal account. I’ll let you know as soon as soon as this option is available.
Q: Can I pay in installments?
A: Yes, we’ll discuss this before the project starts.
Q: What is your turn around time?
A: This all depends on my workload and the complexity of the painting you request. Size is an obvious factor, and a painting with 2 or 3 animals takes considerably longer to finish than just one animal.
If you need a painting in time for Christmas I recommend that you get ahead of the rush, the earlier the better, say August/September.
There is always a last minute rush in December; so much easier and less stressful if you plan ahead.
Q: How do you keep me updated when painting ?
A: While I am painting your pet or whatever subject you select I periodically send you photos via email showing you the painting’s progress.
Q: If I send you a photo, is it returned?
A: Yes, I will return the photo you gave me together with the finished painting.
Q: Does my painting come with a frame?
A: No. Your painting will be delivered with the stretch bars still attached.
You may request that your painting be framed and ready to hang upon delivery. This additional cost must be paid when the painting is picked up or before delivery.
Q: I want my painting framed. Can you arrange this?
A: Yes, of course.
This additional cost must be paid when the painting is picked up or before delivery.
Q: How do I collect my painting?
A: For those clients who live in and around Houston, TX the easiest way is to collect the painting from my studio. I will contact you when it is ready for delivery so we can arrange a meeting time and then I will place it in your vehicle for you.
If you prefer to have it shipped (or do not live near Houston) you will be required to pay all shipping costs beforehand.

A: Yes, of course.
